YORK Acorn Under-14s edged a terrific derby at New Earswick U14s in the very last minute - hard-working prop Hayden Tindall being the try-scoring hero.

The contest was close throughout with both sides showing commitment aplenty, with both camps saying a draw would have been a fair result.

The hosts had the upper hand in the first half to lead 14-10 but the second half belonged to Acorn, with the highlight being a 60-metre try from man-of-the-match Declan Dyer - but it was in the final three minutes when the drama unfolded.

Acorn led 22-18 but All Blacks levelled with a try out wide, the conversion falling short.

From the restart, Acorn forced a dropout and a couple of plays later Tindall crashed over.

Other try scorers for Acorn were Callum Whitley, William Mutlow and Ben Atkins with Alex Backhouse adding three goals.

York Acorn Under-15s enjoyed a cracking start to the new Yorkshire Junior League season - beating North Leeds Leopards 58-18.

The Leopards, aided by refereeing calls, bagged two tries as well, but Acorn began to play their expansive game which garnered five further tries.

Daniel Downes converted nine of the ten touchdowns.

Clayton Shepherd showed great skill and determination to score two fantastic tries but he was pipped for the man-of-the- match accolade by prop Jordan O’Hara.

Man-of-the-match Jasper Shore scored a hat-trick as New Earswick U12s kicked off their Yorkshire Junior League division three season with a 34-8 win at Swillington.

The winger's three tries were all assisted by Jack Saddler, who also booted four conversions.

Travis Dale impressed at hooker, likewise Robbie Craven and Thomas Brown in defence and Joseph Mook at full-back, while Maritino Tunabuna enjoyed a fine debut.

Heworth, with two debutants, trailed at half-time but Adam Hodgson got them on the board and then man-of-the-match Harrison Barker began to tear the hosts apart, scoring six tries for his side to nearly pinch the win in the late stages.

Toby Driscoll and Zachary Towse gained certificates.

Heworth U7s had a great first game of the season, with Loui Watling, Billy Beard and Ellis Beard having brilliant debuts.

The parents' man of the match was the fearless Leo Ogilvie, whose cover tackling saved at least two tries, and the coaches' man of match was Ellis Southerington, whos tackling and strong running led the way. The ever-improving Jay Downes was the player of the week.
