YOUNG tennis aces at Fulford Tennis Club in York battled for glory in the first tournament of the season.

Ten youngsters played three sets of doubles against each other in an effort to claim first prize - a box of chocolate eggs.

Fifteen-year old Ryan Martin won the event, with Eva Pears, 12, runner-up and Hattie Falgate, 15, Billy Surr, nine, and Alex Widdup, tied for third place.

Tournaments for juniors will take place at the club each month, with the next one scheduled for the evening of Friday, April 17. They are open to members and non-members.

The club also runs a junior coaching programme for children aged four to 18, with all abilities catered for. There are sessions on Mondays from 4pm to 5pm and 5pm to6pm and also on Wednesdays from 4pm to 5pm and 5pm to 6pm. Free taster sessions are available.
