YORK Schoolboys Under-13s exited the West Yorkshire Cup after an agonising 4-2 extra time defeat at home to Harrogate in the quarter-finals.

The Minster city boys looked poised for a semi-final spot as they led 2-1 in the latter stages of normal time, but the visitors equalised before scoring a goal in each half of extra time to win the tie.

After a nervy start, Charlie Jebson King fired a shot just over the bar and, after Ollie Smith cleared a Harrogate attempt off the line, Lucas Wilson’s free-kick forced the Harrogate keeper to make a good save.

Rob Guilfoyle shot straight at the keeper before Manni De Nobriga broke the offside trap and beat the keeper, only to see his shot to rebound off a post.

Harrogate took the lead against the run of play with a 25-yard strike after the break, giving York keeper Harry Griffiths no chance.

York responded well and created three good chances, before equalising when a cross from De Nobriga was tapped in by Guilfoyle.

With a minute to go, Charlie Ward played a defence-splitting pass and Joe Crosby ran on to the ball and hit a first time shot into the bottom corner of the net.

York's joy was short-lived as, with less than 30 seconds remaining, a Harrogate midfielder charged straight through the York midfield from the kick off to hit an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.

That gave Harrogate a lift going into extra time.

York Schoolboys U11s went down 2-0 at Hull in the semi-finals of the Green Un Cup.

York should have taken the lead when Harry Tinker fired in an early cross, but Joe Stamp was unable to get on the end of the ball.

Hull were playing on the break but solid defensive work from man-of-the-match George Turbine, Isaac Meehan and Dan Tingle contained them until half-time.

With only ten minutes remaining, a long pass found the Hull striker and his early shot was saved by York keeper Todd Edgar, but he pounced on the rebound.

York forced a late corner but they were unable to take advantage and Hull broke away for a second goal.

York U12s lost 3-2 in their league match at home to Leeds.

York scored from their first attack on seven minutes. A floated corner by Declan Racher was only partially cleared and Connor Teale struck the ball into the roof of the net.

Leeds levelled on ten minutes and they piled on the pressure in the second period, but York keeper Nathan Storr was in great form, denying them twice with reaction saves.

The Leeds pressure eventually paid off with a well-taken goal and, after another fine save from Storr, the visitors scored a third goal.

York started the third period well, with Will Jarvis forcing a fine save before the hosts pulled a goal back.

An Alfie Evans free-kick found Teale in midfield and his pass was turned in by Harvey Stephenson at the far post.

The man of the match was Simeon Hopkinson.
