ZAK MOORCROFT starred with two medals as Team Jorvik swimming club enjoyed their best ever Yorkshire Championships.

Moorcroft claimed a silver medal in the 50 metre backstroke and a bronze in the 100m backstroke - the first county championship medals won by Team Jorvik for five years.

Team Jorvik’s 11-strong contingent qualified for 34 events, earning a total of 11 final places.

In the 50m sprints, Moorcroft qualified in all four disciplines, setting personal bests in all. He qualified for the butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke finals.

There was early success for Joe Senior with a two-second PB in the freestyle.

Maximus Mawle competed in his first Yorkshires in the freestyle and backstroke, while Aidan Fothergill complemented that with three personal bests, in the freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly.

Rhiannon Wood set PBs in the freestyle and butterfly, while Maya Appleyard and Esme Littlewood also clocked new best times in the backstroke.

Max Nozedar made the finals of the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly, all with PB times.

Tom Watkins swam the backstroke and freestyle, setting PBs and finishing fifth in the backstroke final.

In the longer events, Maya Appleyard was joined by Antonia Bunyan in the 100m backstroke, with Bunyan qualifying for the first time.

Emily Hill qualified for the 100m breaststroke and a three-second PB earned her a place in the final.

Moorcroft qualified for six events, setting PBs in all six, culminating in his bronze medal in the backstroke.

Jorvik entered five teams for the team events, with several of the lead-off legs returning personal best times - Mawle, Watkins and Appleyard in the backstroke, and Moorcroft in the freestyle.
