NORTH Yorkshire schoolboy Jake Doyle claimed a sixth-placed finish in the giant slalom at the English Alpine Ski Championships in Bormio.

The 14-year-old, from Topcliffe, was competing with more than 350 athletes at the Snowsport England event, in six categories - senior, junior, under-16, U14, U12 and U10.

British U14s ace Doyle's age category was won by 13-year-old Ollie Weeks, of Leamington Spa, who won the giant slalom and came third in the slalom.

Doyle said: "This is my third championships. It's not been as successful as I'd like, but this one has definitely been the most fun.

"I'm pleased with the racing. It has gone well generally, the super-g was really good and grand slalom is my favourite. I like the speed."

Doyle will ski for Great Britain in Val D’Isere in April having last month finished second in the grand slalom at the Skiinterkriterium 2015 Youth International Race in the Czech Republic.

He won the slalom and giant slalom at the British Schoolboys competition in Meiringen, and also won the U14s slalom and grand slalom at the European International Schools event in Wengan, plus two recent international school races in Switzerland.

He said: "I was born in France and moved to Switzerland where I started skiing at two-and-a-half years old.

"My brother, Tom, was a Team England racer, so he got me into it, as well as my dad, who started skiing when he was 18."

On his immediate skiing schedule, Doyle added: "I've a couple of school races, then the inter-schools in Le Zeusch, followed by the Aiglon College Cup and Brits later in Tignes.

"I couldn't do all these comps without the support of my sponsor mylockup.com."
