A DOUGHTY double was accomplished by Wilberfoss in the City of York Girls’ Football under-15 nine-a-side league.

The Wilberfoss clan upstaged hosts Scarborough 3-0, a win that was their first away success of 2015 and which completed a double after beating Scarborough 5-3 earlier in the campaign.

However, the result could have been very different but for Foss goalkeeper Georgia Stanton.

Three times in the first 12 minutes she made outstanding saves to deny the home team. The brave rearguard action was enhanced by solid defending from player of the match Alice Ella.

Wilberfoss, however, also had their own pressure with captain Ellie Fitzmaurice going close.

Within six minutes of the second half Foss were in front.

A move started in defence with Olivia Cant saw the ball fed quickly to midfielder Alex Harvey. Her slide-rule pass found striker Syd Greening who ran on to open the scoring.

Two minutes later Emma Nelson’s left-foot thunderbolt was well saved before fine wing play by Ellie Parkin resulted in a cross to the back post for Jess Wills to confidently slot home.

The match was sewn up in the 62nd minute when Greening seized on a mistake to take her to joint top of the league’s charts with 16 goals.
