THIRSK Falcons Juniors Football Club are setting up a girls’ team to add to their growing stable of sides.

The club have 15 squads from under-7s to U16s and the plan is to add an U10s girls team for eight to ten-year-olds to train weekly, with a view to playing seven-a-side games in the City of York Girls’ League next season.

Free introductory sessions will take place at the club’s training pitches in Newsham Road, Thirsk, on Saturdays from 10.30am to 11.30am, starting today.

Coach Lee Stevens said: “We have a number of girls already playing with the club and there is a growing demand for a dedicated girls’ team.

“Football is now officially the biggest female team sport in England and the quality of football being played by these up and coming players is very impressive.”
