CITY of York Athletic Club youngsters starred at the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships in Ripon.

Josh Dickinson won the under-13s boys race by a clear margin of four seconds over Leeds' Tommy Dawson, his main rival over the winter.

With good support from Finnian Hutchinson, in 13th, and Toby Antcliffe, in 20th, the club took silver medals in the team race. Herbert Antcliffe was 22nd and Theodore Walton 51st.

City of York's U17s race saw the club’s only team win, with Ben Lewis leading the club home in second place, while Josh Schofield defied a cold to come fourth and Peter Jarvis having a superb run to finish 11th. Tyler Hutchinson was 14th.

The club are strong in the U15 boys age group and it was no surprise to see so many City of York runners to the fore in that race.

Nathan Smith narrowly beat Angus McMillan to take the bronze medal, with Alex Botterill (8th) and Maurice Carlton-Seal (9th) also finishing in the top ten. Luca Parker was 31st, Ed Johnson came 42nd and Joe Lines was 47th.

City of York were pipped to the title by a strong City of Sheffield team.

Ella Eadon finished fifth in the U17s women's race, while the U13s girls team came home fifth thanks to Martha Carlton-Seal (18th), Georgia Neary (24th), Abigail Smith (32nd) and Kitty Townsend (48th).

In the U15s girls race, Georgia Rothwell was 14th and Lara Skerritt 19th.

Christiana Pain was second in the U20s women's race, with Robert Fox 14th in the men's equivalent.

City of York's Tom Bean was eighth in the senior men's event, with Mike Raynes 113th and Andy Normandale 140th.

In the senior women's section, Charlotte Mason was 23rd and Mimi Corden Lloyd 84th.

Paul Wilson, City of York's head throws and multi events coach, said: "It was an amazing achievement for the club."
