TWO members of Pocklington Cricket Club’s junior section are celebrating after winning places on Yorkshire Cricket Board’s Pathways to Excellence scheme.

Ten-year-old pair Ted Baty and Harry Jackson were selected to join the scheme that aims to help young players achieve their cricketing potential.

They came through a trial that saw 70 children competing for only four places.

Andy Inns, chairman of Pocklington Cricket Club and club coach, said: “The boys have worked hard to achieve this level at such a young age.

“They are totally committed to their cricket and have a great attitude. They are great ambassadors for Pocklington Cricket Club and deserve every success.”

The boys, who both represented East Yorkshire last year, have been playing at Pocklington since they were seven.

They also play football for Shiptonthorpe Under-11s in division one of the Hull Boys Sunday League.

Pocklington’s thriving junior section fields five teams in the York & District Junior Cricket Association leagues and the club have increased their coaching squad with the appointment of three new junior coaches for the 2015 season.

The junior season starts in February with winter nets being staged at Frances Scaife Leisure Centre in Pocklington.
