FOOTBALLING pupils at Robert Wilkinson Primary School are celebrating after lifting the Cade Trophy.
The Strensall school’s team topped their local cluster group after games against Wigginton, Ralph Butterfield, Huntington and Yearsley Grove.
They then took on the other three group winners from across they city, opening with a 2-0 win over Lakeside, a game that included a fantastic 25-yard strike from defender Joe Roughley.
In the second game, Robert Wilkinson came from a goal down to beat Westfield 2-1, with striker Lewis Humphreys bagging a good goal.
The final game decider was against Clifton with Rawcliffe, with Robert Wilkinson winning 2-0 after being held at 0-0 at half-time.
The Strensall school will now go on to represent York in the North Yorkshire finals against the winners from other districts, including Scarborough and Harrogate.
Gareth Jones, PE co-ordinator at Robert Wilkinson, said: “The Cade Trophy is a really good school competition to be involved in as it keeps progressing to northern level and eventually a national final.
“Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes were previous winners of this competition with their school, so the boys are really excited.”
