YORKSHIRE and England cricketer Lauren Winfield gave a cricketing masterclass at the York Girls' Cricket Satellite Hub.

Stamford Bridge-based Winfield passed on her experience and coaches reported that all the girls improved throughout the session.

Winfield was impressed with the players' passion, saying: “The effort and enjoyment factor of the session was phenomenal.

"I have every reason to believe we will see some of these girls wearing Yorkshire and England shirts in the future.”

George Brown, of Acomb Cricket Club, said: “Lauren delivered a great session that all the girls loved.

"The Satellite Hub has worked really well bringing girls together and it has improved them as cricketers”

The hub has been operating for several months thanks to funding from North Yorkshire Sport and is running until February.

A spokesman said: "Girls of all ages come to try the sport out for the first time.

"We are continuing to see great development and improvement from each girl and many of them going to join local teams and play competitive matches.

"We would welcome new girls to come and join. It is targeted at nine to 14 year olds, from beginners to girls wanting to improve their cricket skills.

"We have something for everyone and all needs are catered for."

Bolton Percy's Megan Cunningham and Sessay's Niamh Hall said the sessions were “awesome and fun”, while Acomb's Annie Brown added: “I like meeting pros like Lauren Winfield.”

The sessions are held on Tuesdays at Millthorpe School in York from 5.30pm to 7pm. Each session costs £1.
