YORK High School pupils Tylor Faulkner and Lewis Lazenby, both 12 years old, will be heading to the House of Lords on October 27 to hook up with fellow angling ‘champions’.

The pair will be among 20 youngsters from around the country who will be recognised as part of the Fishing 4 Schools project’s Champions Awards.

Fishing 4 Schools is a charity which introduces angling and other types of fishing to children who have not had the opportunity to try the sport before, and these awards are to recognise those who gained most from the scheme in the past year.

Year 4 Leader Erica Evans said: “Both York High School boys were stars on the course.

“Tylor was chosen as our champ for being determined and proactive in his approach on the course. He was knowledgeable and shared this without thought with others.

“Lewis was chosen as our second champ for being patient and enthusiastic from day one to day four. He has made massive improvements in his behaviour and confidence at school.”

Director of Fishing 4 Schools, Charles Jardine said: “Fishing 4 Schools is so important. It puts fun into the classroom and shows children the importance of what they learn at school in daily life.

“They learn about the plants, insects and animals that live by the river or pond. It gives them a reason to study and sets them up with a recreational activity for life.

“And for children like Tylor and Lewis it can really help them improve in confidence and independence.

“All the children nominated for the Fishing 4 Schools awards are real champions and I feel very privileged to have been able to introduce them to this wonderful sport.”
