JOSEPH Rowntree School are celebrating a rounders double.

Young players from the New Earswick school were crowned York champions at under-12s and U13s level.

JoRo won their section at the U13s tournament at Archbishop Holgate’s School and beat Bootham in a close final.

The winning team was captained by Caitlin Gough and included Alice Nendick, Beth Wood, Imogen Bell, Eleanor Pirozek, Libby Swain, Taylor Lamb, Kim Meldrum and Keisha Barker.

Joseph Rowntree hosted the U12s competition, with nine teams competing in two sections.

Section one was dominated by Joseph Rowntree ‘A’, who beat Huntington ‘A’ 9-2, Archbishop Holgate’s 4-1½ and Canon Lee 12-3. Manor won all their matches in section two.

Joseph Rowntree fielded brilliantly in the final to get all Manor out in four and a half minutes and conceding on three rounders. Top player and big hitter Jess Holder was caught out straight away and a few nerves left JoRo 3-1 down with only four players left in. However, they made it 3-3 with only Jess Kilner left in and she sprinted round to get the half rounder required to take the trophy.

Holder captained a winning team that included Lucy Storey, Laura May, Emilia Streames, Lucy Delahay, Kilner, Katarina Blowers, Tia Molesbury and Holly Lockwood.

Joseph Rowntree U15s were unable to retain their title as All Saints’ avenged last year’s final defeat.
