Rowntree Park continued their early season surge to head the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League back in the top-flight. Without losing a rubber they demolished 2009 champions Dunnington by 11 points to one (79-29).

Captain Paul Adams led the way with three points and 31 games with new partner James Denmark. University students Steve McNichol and Sam Davies followed with three from 29.

Sean Evans and Richard Parker won the battle of the big guns for Fulford, as they pipped Poppleton’s John Moore and Rob Jones 7-5 at Fulford, scoring 25 games in total for a maximum three points. But Popp narrowly won the team bonus 56-52, and took the match by the odd point. Castlegarth narrowly edged a 7-5 home win over Knaresborough King James in division two thanks to 25 games and two points from Roger Fawcuss and David Corbyn. Wilberfoss maintain a slender lead in division three after brothers Matt and Dan Poole scored half their team’s total and nearly half their points in a close 7-5 win at Rufforth.

Sherburn leapfrogged Rowntree Park 2 to go second thanks to top pair Phil Bremner and Jonathan Sharpe. They notched another maximum three for 27 games in a tight 57-51 home success.

Wigginton 2 stretched their division four lead after gaining a maximum 12 points against a youthful Strensall, who were without Matt Ward. John Long and Joe Galloway notched 31 games. Bishopthorpe stay second after three wins from 32 games for top pair Rob Williams and Jonny Kay to reap 9½ points at Cawood. David Lloyd 2 posted another impressive division five win, beating Bubwith 2 9-3. Bolstered by Paul Gowland and Andy Stockham, the unbeaten leaders are 12½ points ahead of nearest rivals, Harlow, having played the same number of matches.

David and Oliver Hicks fought tooth-and-nail for Heworth’s wafer-thin win at home to Sutton-on-Derwent 2. Partnering Nick Latcham and Loch Trimingham respectively, they bagged all the home side’s 4½ rubber points, and a total of 46 games between them in the 7½-4½ win.

York 4 retain top spot in division six, despite Stamford Bridge 2 winning.

James Meadows and Lewis Neave did the damage with three points from 22 games, in a slim 55-53, eight-point home win. Bishopthorpe 2 axis Kelvin Riches and Rob Field bagged all their three points and a massive 33 games in a 12-0 romp at home to a depleted Sheriff Hutton side.

Division seven leaders Pocklington 2 went down 9-2 (62-46) at home to Wigginton 3, who are now only three points shy with a game in hand.
