Rowntree Park win Mixed Tennis League division six title showdown against Poppleton

ROWNTREE Park clinched the division six title after a winner takes all showdown with Poppleton in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Poppleton held the advantage after the first two rounds, but Ed Martin and Emma Pauw won their final rubber 9-3 to seal a 55-53 victory and the championship.

Martin and Pauw were also undefeated as Park teed up the title with a win over Cawood.

Paul Dadvar and Amber Hickman led Appleton Roebuck to a win at New Earswick to relegate their opponents along with either Wheldrake or Cawood.

York 1 pipped Poppleton for the division one runners-up spot on games difference after a win against York 3, despite losing to Castlegarth.

Wigginton hold the key as to who will be relegated from division two after Ian Tooms and Denise Crane ensured a narrow win over Stillington.

Graham Taylor and Helen Roe were unbeaten as Wheldrake guaranteed their safety by beating Rowntree Park. Wigginton now have to beat promoted Rufforth to avoid relegation.

Fulford’s long wait is over. They will be promoted along with division three winners Dunnington, who ended Civil Service’s hopes as Alex McLean and Sue Sumner won their second rubber 11-1 to finish unbeaten. Wigginton, led by the high scoring Chris Burnham and Sandra Burley, sealed the second promotion spot in division four on games difference.

They won easily at Heworth, who are now looking favourites for relegation after Paul Woodward and Michelle Hall inspired Riccall to victory at York.

Matt Fletcher and Rachel Price earned Alne the second promotion place in division seven with a win against Fulford.

Dunnington beat Poppleton to rise from division eight with Andy Peake-Vout and Sharon Davidson excelling.

Stamford Bridge routed Wilberfoss to lift the division ten silverware.
