Perfect score for Colin Smith and Steve Shipley in Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League

It was their first match in the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League, but the Harlow first pair of Colin Smith and Steve Shipley’s score will not be beaten this season.

They scored a perfect 36 from 36 games in their inaugural match, an 84-24 thumping of Wigginton 3rds.

Elsewhere in division seven, all three pairs of David Lloyd’s second team were top scorers as they walloped a rusty Pocklington 2 side 90-18 Last year’s division one champions Dunnington crashed 65-43 by visiting York, for whom Pete Goodall and Jason Whiting won all their rubbers for 28 games.

Fulford posted an impressive win at Poppleton 2nds, where they did not lose a single rubber.

Newly-promoted Pocklington were quick out of the blocks, winning seven of their nine rubbers against incumbents Starbeck for an impressive 73-35 division two debut.

York’s new signing, Jez Catchpole, with partner Neil Giltrap, top-scored with 27 on his debut against former team, Civil Service. York won 78-30 to top the table. Boston Spa 2nds Will Ziegler was out to impress at Appleton Roebuck against his brother Ed, but the latter prevailed winning 10-2 and Appleton won 64-44 overall. Hosts Copmanthorpe 2nds were beaten 63-45 in division four by Wilberfoss, whose brothers Matt and Dan Poole ripped into them for 25 games.

Rowntree Park 2nds look ominous in division five, where they routed Bubwith 2nds 83-25, winning all nine rubbers.

James Pilmore, with partner Gordon Bruce, returned a very impressive 29 games for York 3rds in a 70-38 win at promoted Wheldrake in division six.
