HOLDERS Jill McCreedy and Jill Rounce retained their IT Sports Trophy after the league’s ladies doubles tournament was held after a year’s break.

Nine couples took part at Bishopthorpe Tennis Club, where Wigginton’s Sue Espiner and Denise Crane missed out on the final on games difference.

The showdown was between Fulford pairing McCreedy and Rounce, who toppled hosts couple Fran Critchley and Jane Parkin 6-0 in the final.

The restoration of the tournament also initiated a new event, run by Bishopthorpe.

The IT Sports Too event was for teams who play in divisions three to six of the IT Ladies League.

From the 19 teams who competed, Rufforth’s Denise Reilly and Kate Lewis beat the Wilberfoss duo of Chris Oldfield and Max Bailey 4-1 in the final.

Maxine Gordon and Maddelena Moverley, of the David Lloyd 2 team, and Copmanthorpe’s Jane Harding and Jenny Davis were the other semi-finalists.

Organisers Bishopthorpe, who also held a raffle, raised £450 to be donated to the Cancer Care Centre at York Hospital.
