David Lloyd secured a clean sweep at Pocklington to move nearly 12 points clear at the top of the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League. Dunnington won by a whisker despite a maximum from Fulford’s Nigel Skelton and Sean Evans.

Fulford 2 youngster Pip Cook was again unbeaten partnering Patrick Herriott, drawing all three rubbers.

Stamford Bridge 2 were in the driving seat in the top-two division six clash at Cliffe, leading 4-2 and 39-33. However, a huge effort from Cliffe, including an 11-1 victory from brothers Joel and Callum Hancox, snatched a narrow 7-5 (58-50) win.

Cliffe move 19 points clear, but Bridge have two matches in hand. Copmanthorpe’s club outing to Clifton Park was mixed but saw them come away with the balance of the points against York.

In division two, Cop 1 cruised past York 2 for 8½ points, despite easing up in the final round. York 3’s 21-15 fightback pinched a tight match by 56-52 for 7½ points against Copmanthorpe 2 in division four. Jack Bass and Pete Finlay squeezed 2½ points from only 21 games won for the hosts.

York found Wigginton’s hospitality more than generous. York 1 boasted two pairs unbeaten in their 9½-2½ (65-43) defeat of Wigginton 2 in division three. Paul Whurr and captain Pete Goodall returned 2½-25, after drawing with Wiggy’s John Long and Adam Gray. That result was mirrored in division eight as Kevin McKenzie and Bob Shread scored 3-25 for York 4 at Wigginton 4’s Strensall home. Jay Goodall almost emulated dad, Pete, by bagging 2-22 with Stuart Langley for York.

Maximum effort by David Lloyd 2’s Richard Tasker and Matt Kneafsley went to waste in division five as gutsy Boston Spa 2 grabbed a late 54-54 draw and pipped their host with 6½ points. Knaresborough King James 2 captain John Forster and Andrew Walton maxed from 22 games, but their team went down at Wilberfoss 2 in division eight by 8½-3½.

A 2½-22 final round for Sherburn was not enough to topple Rowntree Park 2 in division three. Park held on to take the match 56-52 for a 7-5 home success. Cawood captain Tim Tillett and Adam Raistrick went unbeaten only to see their team go under, as Rufforth’s James Edmond and Andy Goodchild bettered them for 2½-28. The top-scorers were Bubwith new boy Andy Moore and Doug Smith, who won three points and a huge 32 games away to Knaresborough King James in division three.
