THERE was a change at the top of division six in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League as Bishopthorpe 3 overtook former leaders Stamford Bridge.

Bishopthorpe’s 64-44 win over David Lloyd 3 was enough to give them top spot. Kathryn Dickinson and Katie Harvey were their star performers with 26 games.

Stamford Bridge were downed 61-47 by Wilberfoss as Michele Helm and Gerry Screeton netted 28 games.

Dunnington 4 moved off the bottom after narrowly beating Appleton Roebuck 56-52, Jenny Rossington and Ann Murray leading from the front with 25 games.

Wigginton’s Sandra Burley and Pauline Wreglesworth racked up 29 games as they beat Poppleton 3.

York 1 extended their unbeaten run to nine matches at the expense of Poppleton 1.

Wendy Stirke and Louise Lister once again top-scored, while Rebecca Turnbull and Roz Wilson managed to take 19 games for Poppleton.

Pop’s defeat means they concede second place to Castlegarth who were victorious against David Lloyd 1.

The pairings of Sue Jacklin and Rachel Hill and Yvonne Mannell and Dawn Steele both scored 26 games.

York 2 and Dunnington 1 are locked in a battle for fourth place and both recorded wins.

Dunnington 1 saw off Fulford 1, thanks to 25 games from Karen Mitchell and young Kate Reader, but Anna Dimitriopolou and Jill McCreedy teamed up for the first time and were unbeaten for Fulford.

York 2’s highest scorers of the week were Caroline White and Julia Lister with 26 games as they beat Bishopthorpe 1 73-35.

There were several upsets in division two.

Knaresborough 1 continued their recent good form by beating Castlegarth 2 69-39. The two points mean they move clear of the relegation spots for the first time.

Fulford 2 reversed a string of recent defeats by Boston Spa 2 as they edged home 57-51. It was allsquare after the second rubber but 21 games in the final round, including ten for Wendy Cook and Pauline Craddock, were crucial.

Copmanthorpe 1 were also able to notch their second win of the summer against Dunnington 2, Jane Harding and Jenny Davis their stars with 26 games. Pocklington 2 remain top after their match was conceded by Wigginton, who slip to the bottom.

The top three teams all recorded wins in division four.

Cliffe had the largest margin of victory, beating Fulford 3 78-30 in a good all-round team performance.

Leaders Rufforth overcame Tollerton, but it was much tighter for Sutton-on-Derwent as they won 57-51 against Copmanthorpe 2.

Sutton’s first couple, Lucy Collier and Anna Fell, ensured the win with 31 games.

Knaresborough 2 continued to dominate division five, and David Lloyd 2 are their closest title rivals.

Knaresborough had a comfortable win over a weakened Cawood and David Lloyd beat Dunnington 3 67-41 as Jenny Walker and Liz Taylor top-scored with 24 games.

Copmanthorpe 2 managed to put some distance between themselves and the relegation spots after beating fellow strugglers Bubwith. The 24 games scored by Claire Fuller and Lynda Withers made the difference. Appleton Roebuck 1 were unable to continue the momentum from last week’s win in division three as they fell to Wistow, for whom Rachael and Sarah Huggins took 25 games.
