THERE is still all to play for as the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League heads into the final quarter of the season.

Fulford closed in on the division five title with a hard-fought win over York to put their opponents into one of the relegation places.

Bishopthorpe stayed in third place despite losing by only six games when they played Alne with only two couples.

Rowntree Park eased away from the bottom after winning a tight match against Wetherby Castlegarth, who now prop up the division.

Poppleton are closing in on the division one title after another win, against third-placed Wigginton.

High-scoring pair Nick Turnbull and Claire Smith ensured the win.

York 2 have thrown the second relegation spot wide open with a win over Fulford 1. A final unbeaten round enabled them to take the points.

Andy Holmes and Frances Mutter won 28 games to help David Lloyd to victory over Rowntree Park and look favourites for the division two title.

A heavy-scoring first round for Rufforth against Bubwith kept them in second place. They were led by unbeaten Andy Ivel and Judith Evans.

Poppleton kept their promotion hopes alive as the week’s top scorers, Phil Sinton and Ros Wilson, won 33 games against Bishopthorpe.

In division three, Copmanthorpe lost the chance to go top as they went down to a Stillington side inspired by the unbeaten Julian Terry and Nicky Horn.

Dunnington moved away from relegation danger with a two-game win against Sutton-on-Derwent.

Fulford moved above their opponents Wigginton with another two-game win to leave the top four teams separated by only two points.

Two wins propelled Sutton-on-Derwent 3 to the top of division six.

They beat bottom club Tollerton, thanks to Nick Hobson and Nicki Husband, while the unbeaten Chris Lochman and Sally Simpson ensured a win against Appleton Roebuck.

Poppleton are now in second place after a hard-fought win against Wilberfoss. However, against Dunnington, they never recovered from a low-scoring first round.

York have been forced to withdraw from division seven, leaving Stamford Bridge as title favourites.

James and Jennifer Hunt narrowly outscored Bridge team-mates Richard Doughty and Aileen Hunt in a win at Wheldrake. They also added another two points after beating Copmanthorpe.

Three teams are tied at the top of division eight as Stamford Bridge joined in the hunt. A solid win at Fulford followed Bridge’s victory over Appleton Roebuck.

Cliffe and Bishopthorpe look to have sealed promotion from division 11. Dave Hall and Jo Davis led the way in Cliffe’s win over Rufforth and they also beat Alne, despite the best attempts of unbeaten Stuart Hawkins and Suzi Scott-Rix.

Bishopthorpe have also won their last two matches, against Alne and Wilberfoss, to open up an eight-point gap at the top.
