TOM RANSLEY is vowing to “leave no stone unturned” in his pursuit of international rowing success this summer.

The York City Rowing Club star will be part of the Great Britain eight taking on their chief Olympic rivals in the second World Cup regatta in Switzerland this weekend.

As well as reigning world champions Germany, winners of the first World Cup race in Belgrade earlier this month, and their other European foes, GB will face crews from Australia and New Zealand in Lucerne on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

GB finished as runners-up to Germany in the series opener – a position they have consistently filled over the last 18 months.

But 26-year-old University of York graduate Ransley was buoyed by a GB performance which featured a new tactic of taking the race to the Germans in the early stages.

“I think the eights racing could become the one to watch of all the rowing events this summer,” said Ransley, who is in line for a place in the eight at the London Olympics at the end of July.

“Since returning from Belgrade, everyone speaks with quite a buzz about the final, so the reception I’ve received indicates the race caught the eye and interest of the audience.

“I suspect it was an exciting race to watch. Obviously, it was disappointing not to get the gold but there are plenty of positives to take from the race.

“I’m confident that we haven’t exhausted our inventory just yet. There’s more in store, so watch this space!

“I’m 100 per cent confident in my crew mates and coaches that we will not leave a single stone unturned between now and the next time we race internationally.

“Lessons will be learned and our methods improved.”

In the wake of this weekend’s World Cup regatta, the date of Wednesday, June 6 will be looming large for every member of the GB rowing team.

That is the date when team bosses name their squad for the third and final meeting of the World Cup series in Munich on June 15, 16 and 17 – and the line-ups for the Olympic regatta, which gets under way at Eton Dorney on Saturday, July 28.
