WEDNESDAY, April 4 is the next key date in the diary of York City Rowing Club’s Tom Ransley.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to be named in the Great Britain eight crew for the start of the World Cup series as the countdown to the Olympic Games in London gathers pace.

Ransley joined 92 other GB hopefuls at the senior trials weekend at Eton Dorney, which will host the Olympic regatta.

Rowing with 1992 Olympic gold medallist Greg Searle, Ransley reached the final of the pairs, finishing sixth, and must now wait to see whether he has done enough to keep his place.
