YORK City Rowing Club duo James Reeder and Owen Harrison rounded off their junior careers with an exceptional second place finish in the under-18s Home Countries match in Cork.
The talented pair proudly represented England in the race, which saw the Welsh crew come out victorious.
However, their triumph did not go unchallenged, with Reeder and Harrison pushing them all the way.
The opening 1,500 metres saw the lead change hands on several occasions between the two pairs, before the Welsh boat eventually edged ahead at the finish.
They were closely followed over the line by the York rowers who, despite only having a week’s preparation, left Scotland and Ireland in their wake.
Having raced together on many occasions in double sculls as 14 and 15-year-olds, Reeder and Harrison were joined by two other rowers for a quadruple scull at Henley Royal regatta earlier this summer.
They then renewed their partnership for the National Championships in Strathclyde, Glasgow, where, thanks to a well-timed push at the end of the 2,000m course, the pair won bronze medals and selection for the Home Countries match.
The success in their final contest was a fitting end to the youth careers of the two talented rowers, who will now be looking to push on to bigger and better things.
