Lone sculler Jack Longfield fastest at Yorkshire Head event on the River Ouse


York City Rowing Club’s Jack Longfield was the fastest single sculler at the Yorkshire Head on the River Ouse.

Longfield won the intermediate (IM) 3 class, clocking 19 minutes 46.9 seconds for the 5,100-metre course between Rawcliffe Landing and Lendal Bridge.

York City’s veteran I double scull of Dick Gradley and Bob Jones also won their category, for rowers aged 75 and over.

The club’s IM2 quadruple scull of Ed Beddingfield, Andy Wilkinson, Chris Wright and Gav Morris were the fastest quad of the day, finishing sixth overall in 16-36. The IM2 eight were third fastest in 16-08.

The women’s IM3 quadruple scull finished second.

The club’s junior section bagged the following nine wins:

IM3 quadruple scull – Owen Harrison, Joe Feeney, James Reeder, Nick Bartlett; junior 16 quadruple scull – George Ramsey, Jim Gillick, Marcus Burgess, Joseph Dale; IM3 double scull – James Reeder, Nick Bartlett; women’s junior 18 quadruple scull – Rebecca Turley, Izzy Clegg, Alice Janulewicz, Joanne Davey; junior 14 coxed quadruple scull – Charles Hood, David Bruce, Matthew Kelly, James Kelly; junior 16 double scull – Marcus Burgess, Joseph Dale; IM3 coxed quadruple scull – Joe Clare, Toby Williams, Myles Castagnio, Callum Hutchinson, cox Alex Press; women’s junior 14 coxed quadruple scull – Perrie Punson, Laura Newby, Susie Butler, Claudia Gillick, cox Bethany Mundy; women’s junior 15 coxed quadruple scull – Rachel Godfrey, Lilly Draper, Kate Newton, Bethan Griffiths, cox Becky Briggs.
