ST Peter’s School pupil Jess Fitzpatrick has won an England call-up.
The 18-year-old York ace came through four days of trials at the National Watersports Centre, in Nottingham, and gained selection for the England Under-18s eight to race in the Home International Regatta at Nottingham this Saturday.
Fitzpatrick started rowing at St Peter’s at the age of 15 and has made significant steps each year.
For the last two years, she has stroked the St Peter’s senior girls’ squad crews and made steady progress at national level.
Last summer, she came fourth in the National Championships and since last September she has stepped up her training with the aim of gaining national selection.
For most of the year, she has trained at least eight times a week on water and land.
Great Britain water trials are held in November, February and April, with final trials and selection in late June. At the trials, which included 27 five-minute races, she finished fourth in her pair.
