YORK City Rowing Club will today stage their first regatta of the year on the River Ouse - the annual York Spring Regatta.

The event has attracted a record entry of 178 crews, up from last year’s 159 entries, with a bumper junior entry.

The rowers cover a wide age range, from the 13-year-olds to Masters, including the MasH category where rowers are aged at least 75 years.

Crews and scullers are entered from all the York rowing clubs, including York City Rowing Club, York St John University, the University of York and St Peter’s School.

Crews, two at a time, will race over the 800 metre downstream course from St Peter’s School Boathouse to a finish line between Scarborough Railway Bridge and Lendal Bridge.

The regatta starts at 9am and finishes at 5pm.
