The elite quadruple scull crew of Charlie Wagstaff, Patrick Evans, Ben Bollans and Chris Wright won the overall title for the Tees Long-Distance Sculls.

They were followed closely in overall third place by Will Holford, Ethan McGahon, Chris Burgess and James Turton, who won the junior 18 quad division, clocking the fastest time of any junior crew in both events.

York youngsters Ed Etheridge and Edward Press also won the junior double skulls – covering the course faster than any other double in either event.

And the women’s junior 18 quad of Olivia Howe, Emily Roberts, Nuala Doyle and Becky O’Keefe comfortably won the Tees Small Boat Head race, setting a time that made them the fastest female crew of the day.

“It was a great event and an overall excellent day,” he said.

“The weather was good in the morning and to get the amount of wins we did was an excellent result for the club.”

The strength in depth throughout York’s junior section is really pleasing Sparrow.

“Our junior section is really strong,” he said.

“We have 60 to 80 juniors at the club and they are always in the headlines.

“It is a good sport to get into and the youngsters are showing great skill and determination.”

It was not just the juniors who took the plaudits.
