YORK teacher Sarah Watts is making a name for herself in the world of netball umpiring.
The Millthorpe School PE teacher has been identified by England Netball as a performance umpire and officiates in the Superleague – the top league in the country.
Watts was also one of six umpires at the recent Under-19s European Championships at Loughborough University, taking control of matches between Northern Ireland and Wales, Malta and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and Northern Ireland and Scotland.
She said: “I was one of six appointed umpires who have been talent identified by their respective national governing bodies.
“I was extremely honoured to have been chosen to umpire and had a great time. I learned a lot and developed my umpiring skills, having been mentored by two ex-international umpires, Jo Kelly and Margaret Deighan.”
