AN all-star squad of York netballers has Thundered to the West Yorkshire Super League title.

York Thunder, comprising the best players from the York & District League division one, have topped the West Yorkshire elite for the first time in 15 years.

Viewed as the premier league for the region, the West Yorkshire County League includes the best teams from Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate and York, boasting more than 65 teams in seven divisions.

York & District League champions Civil Service joined the league 15 years ago and in 2003 the club was renamed York Thunder and opened up to more players.

The title-winning squad boasts a mixture of top players from RI, Haxby and Rufforth, and enjoys sponsorship from Quarmby Construction and Charterhouse Recruitment Agency.

The club topped the league against huge clubs such as Leeds Carnegie and reigning champions Kirklees Cougars, winning the title by three points with an outstanding 289 goal difference Thunder are already planning for next season and expect to strengthen the squad in a bid to secure a second title.

The winning squad, pictured above, included: Zoey Chelton, Joanne Lynch, Briz Mennell, Jayne Collins and Sam Ellison (all RI), Emma Caywood, Lizzy Pickup, Gemma Gibson, Gemma Summberbell, Nicky Bailey, Gemma Shaw and Cat Parmiter (all Haxby), Sarah Mallinson (ex-Rufforth), Vicky Doyle and Teresa Roddis (of Bradford).
