HAXBY'S netballers are in seventh heaven after a historic run of results for the club's teams.

All seven of Haxby's senior sides tasted York and District League victories in the space of seven days with the seventh team even recording their first win of the season to contribute to the sequence.

The wonder week began with the narrowest of triumphs for Haxby thirds, who were trailing going into the last quarter of their home match with Millers A' before shooters Natalie Wordsworth and Georgina Collinge inspired a comeback and clinched a 28-26 premier division success.

Haxby firsts were more convincing winners the following day, extending their 100 per cent record to an eighth game by defeating reigning champions RI firsts 54-27.

England Under-19 international Gemma Gibson was in fine shooting form for the visitors, who were better in every department than RI.

RI reclaimed the title they had won for 29 successive years last season after Haxby wrestled it from their grasp in 2005.

But Haxby are now hot favourites to win the crown having not yet dropped a single point, meaning none of their opponents have managed half of their tally in any game.

On the same day, Haxby seconds, who have also beaten RI firsts this season, defeated newly-promoted Rufforth A' 35-27.

The seconds have recently benefited from the goalkeeping services of Leeds Met Carnegie National Super League player Cat Parmiter but their shooting ability was also crucial in this match.

A night later, goal shooter Sue Harrop returned from injury to help Haxby fifths beat Rufforth B' 36-16 in division three.

Sara Gilbertson and Helen Dunne also enjoyed strong displays.

Haxby's sevenths, including 15-year-old trio Katy Knowles (wing defence), Emma Doughty (wing defence) and Helen Jones (centre), then caused a fifth division upset by overcoming College of Law 26-16.

Two days later, Lynn Shore teamed up with Helen Birdsall to fire Haxby sixths to a 35-8 division four win over Bluebells.

Goal defence Trish Bell and goalkeeper Jane Baulch, playing for the fourth year together, also kept things tight at the other end.

A super seven successes was then ensured by division two leaders Haxby fourths, who won 40-31 at title rivals BSA firsts despite having only three regulars available in Kelly Davison, Sarah Green and Rosie Wright.

Debbie Twissell (fifths), Helen Birdsall and Jane Baulch (sixths) and Emma Doughty (sevenths) were all drafted in to complete a remarkable week for the club.

"I'm really proud of them," said Haxby chairwoman Val Kennedy, who is also the league chairwoman.

"It's a fantastic achievement that I don't think will ever be repeated."

Haxby, who are based at the Ethel Ward playing-fields, are now the biggest netball club in North Yorkshire, boasting 96 members including junior teams at year seven, eight, nine and ten level.

The village club started in 1980 with one team but now plan to add an eighth side from the eldest junior girls.
