PROSPEED navigator Amy Williams faces the final obstacle in her rallying quest this weekend when she attempts to complete the Cambrian Rally in North Wales.
The 2010 Winter Olympics skeleton gold medallist co-drives for Sky Sports News’ F1 analyst Tony Jardine for the York-based team and is feeling the pressure.
Williams needs to finish four rallies in order to compete in Wales Rally GB, the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
Not finishing the Cambrian Rally would mean heartache for the duo, who will be using a new turbo-charged Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 rally car this weekend.
Jardine said: “The new car will add a whole new dimension to our rally partnership. Either way we are ready for the final challenge.
“Amy has made fantastic progress in the short amount of time she has been rallying but co-driving is no easy task.
“Amy was pushed to the brink on the Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally, ten days ago, when lots went wrong. Amy dug in and we ground out a good result. We’ve enjoyed success in the previous rallies and hope to do the same again on the Cambrian Rally.”
All nine stages take place in the unforgiving Welsh forests, which leave no margin for error.
Williams added: “You don’t think of those negative things, you have to be positive and confident. As soon as your mind focuses on what can go wrong, it’s not focused on the job.”
