IN a boost to North Yorkshire motorsport, the British Trial & Rally Drivers Association series returns to Trackrod Rally Yorkshire on September 27 after an absence of four years, writes Mat Robinson.

The BTRDA, which will celebrate its 60th year, will be one of many series on show at the two-day event and preparations are well under way at the newly-revamped Pickering Showground.

The leader of Ryedale District Council, Coun Linda Cowling, has welcomed back the BTRDA and feels the new look will have a huge impact on the proceedings.

She said: “This is a welcome return to Pickering and the revamped showground after an absence of four years. It will be a marvellous opportunity for both competitors and spectators to enjoy our fabulous countryside.

“Ryedale District Council is fully committed to encouraging events that will support the economy in Ryedale as it is well recognised that where the rally goes some £1 million are spent in the local economy.”

Competitors from across the country will travel to the North Yorkshire event for a chance of qualifying for the MSA British Championship – and for the last time too.

The Press revealed last week that such status will not be part of the Trackrod Rally next year.

Pickering’s market place will host the start of the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, the Trackrod Pre-87 Historic Cup and the Trackrod BRC Challenge on Friday, September 27 from 5.45pm.
