FIRST season, first glory – that was the roaring start to a fledgling rallying career enjoyed by North Yorkshire’s Nick Carr.

Like petrol in the tank, rallying is in the blood of Carr, who hails from Barton-le-Willows. His dad Robert Carr – his inspiration for and introduction to the sport – was also a rally driver.

Now the chip off the engine block is revving up the speed-work with a rapid impression in his first season in the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association Championships.

He and his co-driver Joe Sturdy, from Hull, who works for the Force India team on the Formula 1 grand prix circuit, won their first rally in their debut season with triumph in the Forest of Dean Rally.

With more BTRDA meetings to come in Ludlow and then back on home terrain in the Trackrod Rally around the North Yorkshire forestry, Carr was hoping for even more success behind the wheel.

Carr, who is employed at Rally Engineering in Sheriff Hutton, drives a self-built Nissan Micra.

But with the costs of maintaining the car and keeping it in prime competitive condition Carr was hoping to secure sponsorship.
