BIGGER and better is the pledge from organisers of this year’s Trackrod Rally Yorkshire.

An increase in cars, championships and spectator facilities is promised when the popular rally comes to Pickering and the forests of Ryedale on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.

At least 13 title races, including the MSA British Rally Championship (BRC), REIS-Get Connected BTRDA Rally Series and the West Wales Rally Spares RAC Championship, will be included in the 36th staging of the annual rallying spectacular.

The action gets under way on the Friday with a host of competitors taking on the challenge of Dalby Forest at night, with “headlights cutting their way through the gravel forest tracks” from around 8pm.

Historic championship runners will be closely followed by the modern, high-tech BRC cars.

Two special spectator venues – a redesigned ‘Woodyard’ and ‘Housedale’ – will be located within the Dalby Forest complex, each featuring a range of facilities.

After an overnight halt, the cars return, supplemented by a bumper entry of British Trials and Rally Drivers Association contestants, to undertake the remaining stages from 8.30am.

Spectators are promised “special” viewing at Cropton, plus a brand new location still being finalised by the organisers.

A spokesman said: “Action over the various stages is almost continuous, at some until around 6pm, with the start and finish now very close by in Pickering, where the whole event is orchestrated from the town’s fabulously refurbished showground. The advice to both rally fans and the purely curious is to mark the last weekend in September in their diaries.”

Clerk of the course Rod Parkin said: “The whole team is really looking forward to presenting a stunning field of rally cars including the best of international and historic car competitors.

“We are also delighted to welcome back the BTRDA Championship and hope that everyone will enjoy what should be a feast of action and the commitment that the famous Yorkshire stages demand.”
