City of York Hockey Club men’s VIII celebrate their League E Cup final success.
A HAT-TRICK of goals by Will Broadbent helped City of York Hockey Club VIII lift the League E Cup after a 6-2 final victory over Chapeltown IV.
York led 2-0 at half-time and their defence was only breached late on.
In the first ten minutes, York’s rearguard of Graham Mackfall, Steve Thomson, Freddie Vahey and Mark Turner kept Chapeltown at bay.
York began to counter- attack and made inroads into Chapeltown territory, eventually yielding a penalty corner. Broadbent netted with a textbook strike to open the scoring.
They kept up the pressure and striker Will Bowen secured a second goal shortly before half-time.
Rich Robson increased the lead with a third goal a minute into the second half.
Another Broadbent goal increased York’s tally to four, and Mikey Jacobsen followed up with a fifth.
In the closing stages of the game Chapeltown got a consolation goal from a penalty corner. That denied ’keeper Jack Feasby the clean sheet his efforts deserved, and he was beaten again after Broadbent had got York’s sixth goal. The man of the match award went to Will Bowen.
