Two Yorkshire League division three games in 24 hours yielded a storming win and a creditable draw for Acomb Hockey Club women’s second XI.

Bottom-placed hosts Wakefield were put to the sword in the weekend opener, Acomb in frelentless mood to triumph 9-0.

Ten minutes in, Wendy Watson drove in the first goal from an acute angle.

As the visitors’ pressure increased, Hannah Yoward doubled the score sweeping the ball in from the back post before Sasha Taylor struck home a fierce shot followed by a second goal from Yoward.

The second half followed the same one-way trend.

Kerry Woods was on target as was Yoward and Watson to complete their hat-tricks, while Taylor rounded off the rout with the ninth.

The player of the match award was shared by Georgi Wood and Vicky Wrigley for their set-up play in midfield.

A tougher challenge was presented by visiting Netherwood in the second of the double-header.

The defence of Elsworth, Woods and Harrison were being pulled around but stayed strong and kept out several short corners.

Wood seemed to cover most of the pitch as she fought for every ball, while the deadlock ended when Yoward darted past several players before smashing in a superb strike.
