Acomb Hockey Club men’s second XI prevailed over visiting Tadcaster second XI in a six-goal Yorkshire League division north thriller.
Rob Kendrew opened the scoring for the Tangerines in the 16th minute after the home side had been put under the cosh by a young Tadcaster attack.
Dan Harrison equalised after a defensive mix-up shortly before half-time.
Within seven minutes of the restart, Kendrew secured a second from close range but the visitors levelled again through a Roy Jewitt penalty corner strike.
Ben Pottinger, with his pace, was always a handful and made up for a poor miss when he scored a fortunate goal from a cross inside the area which was turned in to their own net by a Tadcaster defender.
Dave Morris and John Armitage, the latter back from injury, marshalled the home defence, while Dan Pratt and man of the match Paul Kellet controlled midfield.
Kellet secured the decisive fourth goal for Acomb from a penalty corner ten minutes from time.
Tadcaster trimmed the deficit but then Keith Thorpe had his re-taken penalty stroke saved by Acomb ’keeper Martin Grainge.
Despite two goals from Hannah Yoward and excellent goalkeeping from skipper Sarah Milburn Acomb ladies second XI lost 3-2 at Canalside Terriers in Yorkshire division three.
The game was decided by a harshly awarded penalty stroke seconds from the end of the game.
