GOALS were in fluent supply for City of York Hockey Club’s ladies second XI.
They routed visitors Tadcaster 7-0 in their Yorkshire League division one derby.
Keen to atone for a 3-2 defeat to Harrogate a week earlier, York were quickly in front through Annabel Lee from a short corner.
A reverse stick-shot from Fiona Gemmell doubled the advantage and the same player was soon on target for her second goal.
Backed by a solid defence, the hosts were able to pour forward and their adventurous approach yielded four more unanswered goals from Emily Gee, Rachel Bassett, Rowena Simpson and Zara Gower.
In the Purple Mountain Hockey League, Nestlé ladies put on a solid team performance to beat determined hosts Danby 2-1.
Nestlé opened the scoring in the first half with a superb Vanessa Walker goal after some solid passing upfront.
Danby soon fought back and equalised following a short corner.
Both teams came out determined to bag the winner in the second half.
End to end play ensued with both attacks working hard but it was Nestlé, who finally broke the Danby defence with excellent play from the combination of Walker and Souter.
The latter’s precision cross found Jackie Cockerham who banged the ball into the net.
Defender Paula Ridge was the Nestlé player of the match and Emma Douglas was awarded team player of the match for a fine display in centre midfield.
