PROMOTION-CHASING City of York Hockey Club Men’s I are facing a must-win final fixture at Sheffield University Bankers II in North League division one.

A 10-0 victory over basement side Rotherham I at Oaklands at the weekend leaves City of York a point behind second-placed Chester I with one game remaining.

Skipper Chris Wilson scored a hat-trick, Alex Cockram and Luke Ramli got two apiece, and Tom Feasby, Olly Couttie and Richard Cockram also netted.

City will be hoping they can beat the Bankers on Saturday and that Chester come unstuck at home to mid-table Leeds I.

City of York II picked up their first point of the season from a 1-1 draw with Leeds Adel Carnegie II, but they need to win their final two games to avoid relegation from the Yorkshire League premier division.

Adel took the lead against the run of play, but York levelled after a superb run and strike from the top of the ‘D’ by Pete Richardson.

In the closing 15 minutes York had two goals disallowed and, after strenuous appeals, Richardson was shown a yellow card and Ben Smith had a yellow upgraded to a red card. Promoted City of York III were 4-3 winners at home to Wakefield III in division two. The York scorers were skipper Ed Shouksmith, Greg Sykes (2) and Josh Longster.

City of York IV blew Rotherham III away in the first half on their way to a 5-1 victory in division three. Alex Herriott (2), Tim Lister, Rob Prentice and Sam Butterfield were the scorers.

Pete Brown netted twice as City of York VI beat Rotherham IV 2-0 in division five.

City of York VII were beaten 3-1 at home by Harrogate III in division five.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, City hit back with a short corner goal from Steve Archer. However, Harrogate added two goals to their tally.

Division seven champions University of York put City of York VIII to the sword, winning 4-1.

The York goalscorer was Neil Reader, who tidied up a rebound from a Peter Fitton shot.

City of York IX also lost to the students – going down 8-0.

City of York X Badgers were 7-2 victors over visitors Huddersfield Badgers.

Matt Hays, Danny Ellwood (2), Phil Worrall, Luke Doran, Lewis Inman and Rory Ainslie got the goals.

City of York Veterans reached the semi-finals of the National Veterans Cup with a 2-1 win at West Wiltshire. Pali Sudhar and Alex Fletcher were the scorers.
