DISAPPOINTMENT continued to blight City of York Hockey Club ladies firsts, who crashed 5-2 at home to Hallam I in the North League premier division.

The game started quickly with York making advances down the left side where Sam Binns, Annabel Lee and Laura Horne were to the fore.

But a rapid break from the Sheffield-based ranks enabled the visitors to draw first blood.

And, as the heavens opened and thunder roared, York’s defence was breached twice more.

Not to be deterred, York rallied. Holly Millar found herself alone in the circle and, exercising great composure, managed nutmeg the keeper to score.

But the response from Hallam was rapid, yielding two more goals before half-time.

Trailing 5-1, York then dominated the second-half but their lone reward from a succession of chances created was a Vicky Skilton deflection into the net.

• A COHERENT performance was produced by City of York ladies III, but they could not make their bouts of pressure tell.

Instead, they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 defeat by Yorkshire League division two visitors Huddersfield Dragons I.

Both keepers were kept busy with York’s Leeha Cox impressive between the sticks.

There were also solid performances from forward Kelly Hunter and player of the match Fay Chapman.

• IT would be hard not to describe City of York ladies IV’s outing to Huddersfield I in division four as calamitous.

Besides losing 2-1, the team suffered punctures en route and the home keeper was injured in a collision with a York striker.

The subsequent ‘goal’ was disallowed and there was an hour before the re-start with the Huddersfield keeper having to go to hospital with a fractured wrist.

• GOALS from Karis Hayes and Mimi Hou ensured City of York ladies V captured a 2-1 victory over Leeds V 2-1 in division seven north.
