A RESHUFFLED Acomb men’s I side beat basement side Ben Rhydding V 3-0 in Yorkshire League division four north.

The visitors, bolstered by several second team players and the return of Ryan Forster from injury, were in rampaging form.

Rob Ireland, the second team’s man of the match for the past two weeks, stepped up to the plate with a match-winning performance.

Matt Dickenson struck a post and then opened the scoring from a penalty corner after 25 minutes.

The Tangerines secured a safe advantage when, from a Baz Whitfield pass, Dickenson doubled the lead with a sharp strike.

A reshuffled defence of Dave Brown, Ryan Smith and John Armitage snuffed out any home attacks.

Dave Richardson struck in the second half to seal the win.

Acomb men’s II were unable to make it three wins in a row as they lost 3-0 at home to Ben Rhydding VI in division five north.

After an even opening 20 minutes, Ben Rhydding took the lead after a quick counter attack caught out the Acomb defence.

The visitors created several chances and were denied by strong defence from man of the match Paul Kellett and saves by goalkeeper Martin Grainge.

Ben Rhydding extended their lead before half-time.

Hard work from Acomb youngsters Luke Yates and Joe Hadden kept the Tangerines in the game, but they were unable to prevent Ben Rhydding scoring their third goal from a short corner.

Acomb ladies lost 4-2 at home to Bridlington I in Yorkshire League division two.

Kerry Woods beat the ’keeper on five minutes to open Acomb’s account and Wendy Watson quickly fired in a second goal.

Bridlington fought back and pulled one back from a tight angle and they equalised on the break.

Unlucky deflections saw Acomb concede a further two goals before half-time.

Acomb ’keeper Sarah Milburn made several saves after the break.
