A HAT-TRICK by Rich Jenkin was not enough to earn City of York men’s I their first win of the North Hockey League premier division season.

City of York are now three points adrift at the bottom after Saturday’s 6-4 defeat by Whitley Bay and Tynemouth I at Huntington School.

Whitley Bay scored midway through the first half to lead 1-0 at the break.

Jenkin notched his first goal from a short corner drag flick, burying it in the bottom corner.

The sides traded goals through the second period with Jenkin adding two more to his tally, but then the visitors took the initiative and pulled away to lead 6-3.

Both sides had players yellow-carded in the last 15 minutes, with Whitley Bay going down to nine at one point.

York took advantage with a fourth goal, Max Keller setting up Rich Cockram to convert a powerful flick.

Resurgent City of York II made it back-to-back wins in the Yorkshire League premier division as they won 3-2 at Bradford I.

City took the lead on ten minutes, Jonny Kilmartin playing a one-two with Alex Fletcher before lifting the ball over the on-rushing ’keeper.

Bradford levelled midway through the half, seizing on a loose ball to get into the ‘D’ and scoring on a rebound.

A quick ball out of defence from David Clamp saw man of the match James Wickham beat several defenders before finishing to put City back in front.

Clamp cleared a penalty corner off the line to preserve the lead but the home side eventually drew level after the break.

Mark Moisley was denied by a good save, but with five minutes left Dan Ellwood found Fletcher in the ‘D’ and he bagged the winner.

City were reduced to ten men for the final two minutes when Peter Perryman was yellow-carded, but they managed to hang on.

City of York III tumbled 6-2 at home to division two leaders Airedale I.

After two early Airedale goals, man of the match Rob Chamberlin pulled a goal back for York.

The hosts slipped 5-1 behind before Dominic Firth chased a seemingly lost cause and drilled the ball under the ’keeper.

In the dying minutes, Airedale scored a sixth from a one-on-one break away.

A late equaliser denied City of York IV as they drew 2-2 with Chapeltown II in division three.

First-half goals by Greg Sykes, from a penalty corner, and Zach Moore, from a penalty flick, gave York a 2-1 half-time lead, although they missed several chances to be further in front.

Chapeltown made them pay with a leveller ten minutes from time.

In division four north, City of York V were 3-0 winners at Ben Rhydding 5.

A double from James Fitton put York in control at the interval and Will Broadbent added a second- half goal for a youthful City of York side.

Acomb I were trounced 8-0 at home by Bradford University I in division four north, while the Tangerines’ second string were edged out 2-1 at Airedale II in division five north.

City of York VII emerged with a creditable 2-2 draw from their trip to Boston Spa III in division five north.

Andy Wilson’s two goals gave City a commanding lead at half-time, but Boston Spa turned the game around with two goals against the run of play.

Paul Rowntree and James Gibbon were excellent in the City midfield, while Matt Marshall starred in defence.

In division six north, City of York VIII crashed to a 9-2 defeat at Leeds VII. Andy Dent and Martin Gorton were the York scorers.

City of York Badgers fought out a 0-0 draw at home to Slazengers.
