STICKS ruled wickets when a City of York hockey team played hockey against a Heworth Cricket Club XI in the memorial match for Kishor Solanki, who starred for both clubs.
The hockey ranks won 6-4 led by a Patrick Herriott brace of goals, while the mostly youthful cricket side included James Woodhall, a friend of Solanki’s who was in York on a visit from New Zealand.
The goal of the game was deemed to be Barry Legg’s superb solo own goal, with a sweeping run across the shooting circle to deflect in an otherwise innocuous shot.
