SIMON DYSON'S return to the European Tour stuttered with a one-over-par round in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Winner of the title played over three courses - St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns - before a final round for the leading players back at St Andrews on Sunday - Dyson carded a 73 at St Andrews.

He suffered a dismal start with a double-bogey six on the second hole, but was back to one under after birdies on fifth, tenth and 11th holes.

However, he dropped another shot on the next and also on the 17th to leave him nine adrift of the first day leader, Oliver Wilson.

Harrogate Golf Club's John Parry shared tenth spot after a 68 at St Andrews, crowned by four birdies in the opening five holes.
