THE longest day turned into one of the most profitable for York golf ace Simon Dyson, writes Tony Kelly.
He started today’s second round of the BMW PGA Championship in joint tenth spot after an excellent three-under-par 69 yesterday when play at Wentworth was delayed by thunderstorms.
Though the overnight leader was Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn after he equalled Wentworth Golf Club record with a ten-under 62, the only man in close touch was Ireland’s Shane Lowry, a further two shots adrift.
That left a clutch of players separated by a few shots, including the 36-year-old Dyson eager to recover from missing last week’s cut in the Spanish Open.
Dyson currently rated 187th in the world, started dismally with a bogey on the second but then roared back with three successive birdies from four to six. A dropped shot on the 11th was followed by further birdies on the 12th hole and the par-five last.
