A TRIO of birdies left Simon Dyson in a promising position at the half-way stage of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

The York-born six time European Tour winner is tied 16th following two rounds of the $2.5 million tournament at the Doha GC – six shots adrift of leader Rafa Cabrera-Bello.

After a four under opening round of 68, Dyson came to the turn in his second round one over par for the day.

But he birdied the par five tenth and then went on a birdie blitz from the 14th – picking up three successive shots.

That led to a closing nine of 32 and a second round total of 69.
