A POOR start and a finishing double blow marred York star Simon Dyson’s return to the European Golf Tour.

Dyson was back in action yesterday for the first time in almost two months and also since he was found not guilty of cheating at a disciplinary panel after an incident in the BMW Masters in China in October.

He was fined for a breach of regulations but cleared of any “premeditated act of cheating”.

Dyson’s return to the European Tour was in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, where he closed the first round with a one-over par 73, six shots shy of joint leaders Rafa Cabrera-Bello of Spain, England’s Matthew Baldwin and Romain Wattel of France.

Starting on the par-five tenth Dyson posted a six, but after that was in credit with birdies on the 17th and fourth holes, before he dropped shots on the sixth and eighth.
