York cycleworks rider Andrew Windrum has landed top place in this year’s senior Mountain Bike Orienteering League with Wayne Nicholson gaining second place in the veterans’ classification.

Windrum, from Newton-on-Ouse, dominated the senior classification winning six out of the nine races over the season.

Huby’s Nicholson has also been gaining top places throughout the series.

Said Windrum: “Wayne and myself have raced as a pair in the past and done well in these competitions, so it’s nice we are both racing for the same team and doing well individually.”

Added Nicholson: “I don’t mind coming second. It was, after all, behind Andy Conn, who, like Andrew, is on the Great Britain squad who have competed at the European and world championships.

“This is our first year racing for York cycleworks.

“The guys at the shop know their stuff and provide a great deal of support for the team who are involved in wide range of cycle racing events at both regional and international events.”

The North Yorkshire mountain bike orienteering league is a series of nine events of two to five-hour races staged across Yorkshire from March to October.
