SCHOOL secretary Janet Tate underwrote a successful chapter for herself in the Cycle Time Trials League held near Tadcaster.

More than 75 riders took part in the league which spanned 15 events and Tate, pictured, who is from Appleton Roebuck, finished as the highest-placed woman.

The first man overall was Doug Hart of Leeds, while third fastest man was Church Fenton’s Matthew Haigh.

Other local riders included: Andrew Lee (Tockwith) who was tenth, Bob Tate (Appleton Roebuck) first veteran, Mike and Barbara Penrice (Selby) first tandem, Matthew Lunn (Wheldrake) first non-member, Peter Jackson (Sutton-on-Derwent), Keith Richardson (Acomb), Colin Hawxby and Robyn Oldham (Acomb).

The only rider to take part in all events was John Colman, who finished second overall.

Events were held at ten, 12, 15, and 25 mile courses on roads around Tadcaster, Selby and York, The prize presentation for the 19th year of the league is next Thursday at Sherburn, sponsored by Cyclesense of Tadcaster.
