CLIFTON Cycling Club’s flagship Thursday Evening Time Trial Series starts tonight with a flat ten-mile race at Sheriff Hutton.

The series comprises 12 events on consecutive Thursday evenings, with six races on flat courses, four hilly courses and two rolling courses.

Entry is £2 on the night, or £1 for under-18s and riders must belong to a CTT-affiliated club.

The club’s season opened with a 13-mile open time trial.

Mark Wolstenholme (Team Swift-Allsports-Sanyo) won in 30 minutes 50 seconds on a rolling course through Whenby, Brandsby and Stillington.

First Clifton rider to finish was Jon Cocker, who took fifth place in 33:40, while the women’s race was won by Clifton’s Virginie Baronnet in 38:23.
